So like i said yesterday,this week,i’ll blog about how to dress the different body types of women.I promised one of my twitter followers who is pear shaped that i was going to start with her body shape so am starting with pear shapes.I hope pear shaped women who read my blog will find this useful.
WHAT ARE THE MAIN TRAITS OF PEAR SHAPE WOMEN? :
- Smaller bust
- Narrower shoulders
- Defined waist
- Wider hips and tighs
- Wider bottom not necessarily a big booty
The above are general traits,however,there are different varieties of the pear shape.Beyonce,Shakira,Leona Lewis and JLo are all belived to be pear shapes (DEBATABLE) but their bodies are not the same right?That is what i mean.,some pears sometimes almost look like hourglass figures,eg. Beyonce.Also,you could be a slimmer pear like Rihanna or more curvacious like Beyonce.
Like Epictetus said, ” Know, first, who you are; and then adorn yourself accordingly.” I believe this simply means that it’s important to know your body,what looks good on it and dressing it accordingly without following fashion blindly.Coloring is equally important.You should make it a point to wear colors that compliment your skin tone.Remember,” The best color in the whole world, is the one that looks good, on you!”.COCO CHANEL.
HOW DO YOU DRESS A PEAR SHAPE BODY WHO WANTS TO DRAW ATTENTION AWAY FROM HER CURVES?
These are really general guidelines because some pears are petite,some are plus size,some are tall,some have short legs,others long legs.If you have short legs,you need to wear clothes that will elongate them and heels.Some pear shape women are not comfortable showing off their curves whiles others embrace their curves and show it off.If you are one of those who tries to downplay your curves,the best way to dress is to ENHANCE YOUR UPPER BODY (WAIST UP) BY ADDING WIDTH AND VOLUME whiles MINIMIZING your HIPS,BUTT AND TIGHS.

You can accentuate your upper body by wearing things that add more weight to your shoulder and bust area like push up bras,wonder bras, structured shoulders, shoulder pads,ruched sleeves,horizontal stretching necklines,ruffles,frills,wide sleeves,boatnecks,cowlneck,strapless dresses and tops,etc.this draws attention to your upper body. This does not only make your body figure look more proportional like an Hourglass,it also downplays your hips and thighs. Another way to draw attention to your upper body is to wear bright,light or bold colored blouses/tops like electric blue,tangerine,pink,white,red,etc.You can also wear stripes,eye catching embellishments,polkadots,sequins,prints,tops with large collar,statement necklaces,etc.Go for bust enhancing necklines like bustier or sweetheart,these visually lift and enhance your bust.

You should invest in flare jeans,especially high waisted,it defines your waistline and the flare draws attention away from your hips.The curvier you are,the wiser it is to buy longer and wider flare jeans,it helps with your body propotions and the length elongates your legs.Also invest in skirts,dresses and fabric pants with a bit of flare,bootcut jeans,tailored shorts,etc.
SIMPLE AND TAILORED SHORTS
Tops, sweaters and jackets should extend just below your hipbone (helps skim over your hips. Hip-length tops only draw attention to the area it hits).Try to avoid lengths across the widest part of your hips/legs too.
CROPPED JACKETS AND BLAZERS
IF YOU ARE A PROUD PEAR SHAPE WOMAN AND LOVES TO SHOW OFF YOUR CURVES,DO THE OPPOSITE OF THE ABOVE AND DRESS TO DRAW ATTENTION TO YOUR CURVES IN PENCIL SKIRTS,SKINNY JEANS,FITTED AND BODY-CON DRESSES,DRESSES AND SKIRTS WITH BOTTOM DETAILS LIKE PEPLUM,RUFFLES,DRAPES AND TULIP CUT.ALSO WEAR PRINTS,LIGHT AND BRIGHT OR BOLD COLORS AT THE BOTTOM AND EMBRACE FLORALS,LACE,POLKADOTS,ETC.

There is so much to choose from if you embrace your curves and love to show it off.The above are just a few examples.And like i mentioned before,these are just the general guidelines for pear shapes.You obviously need to customize it to suit you.For instance,a pear shape with long legs does not really need to focus on elongating her legs whereas a pear shaped woman with short legs does and so on.
Don’t forget to wear colors that makes you glow and like i always say,confidence,attitude and posture counts so make the world know you know you look damn good in what you are wearing.(Not in an arrogant way though).And finally, your best accessory is your smile so wear that always.
